The New York Times Book Review wrote of Matt Briggs’ first collection of stories, The Remains of River Names, “Briggs has captured the America that neither progressives nor family-value advocates want to think about, where bohemianism has degenerated into dangerous dropping out.” Of his stories, Jim Feast wrote in The American Book Review, “All of Briggs zigzagging stories are told with great attention to the details of lowbrow culture and the contours of the American Northwest.”
Briggs was raised in the Snoqualmie Valley, about thirty miles east of Seattle. He is the author of eight works of fiction including The Strong Man, The Double, and Virility Rituals of North American Teenage Boys. The Before Columbus Foundation awarded his novel, Shoot the Buffalo, an American Book Award. In addition to writing books, he works as a content architect. He lives near Seattle with his wife Lisa Purdy.
